Six criminals, who are strangers to each other, are hired by a crime boss Joe Cabot to carry out a diamond robbery. Right at the outset, they are given false names with an intention that they won't get too close and concentrate on the job instead. They are completely sure that the robbery is going to be a success. But when the police show up right at the time and the site of the robbery, panic spreads amongst the group members and one of them is killed in the subsequent shootout along with a few policemen and civilians. When the remaining people assemble at the premeditated rendezvous point (a warehouse), they begin to suspect that one of them is an undercover cop.

ANTHOLOGY is a perfect two-disc career-spanning retrospective of Dave Edmunds' work. The earliest selections date from Edmunds' tenure with Love Sculpture. Their five tracks range from the mild psychedelia of "River To Another Day" to the flat-out guitar rave-up of "Sabre Dance." The Welsh-born Edmunds later went solo, landing himself on the charts on both sides of the Atlantic with his cover of the old Smiley Lewis hit, "I Hear you Knockin'."

Edmunds justifiably built his reputation as a first-class guitarist and song stylist with a steady stream of fine albums throughout the '70s and '80s, first with the band Rockpile, later in assorted solo and group settings. He consistently draws from excellent sources, covering material by Graham Parker, Elvis Costello, NRBQ, John Fogerty, and Bruce Sprintsteen, among others. Edmund's always makes each tune his own. ANTHOLOGY is an excellent overview for an already established fan or for anyone unfamiliar with Edmunds' work.

Released earlier the same year as his breakthrough album NIGHT MOVES, LIVE BULLET is one of those iconic live albums in which the versions and performances totally surpass the studio albums which came before. The versions here are brilliant, particularly "Katmandu" and the well-known and well-loved "Turn the Page", not ignoring "Beautiful Loser", "Get Out of Denver" and others. This is a U.S. pressing, using the "English" masters (I assume the original masters are in bad shape), which implies there may be a UK 20-bit or 24-bit remaster out there, but I couldn't find it. However, for a U.S. pressing, it certainly sounds better than I remember from vinyl.

Jim Stafford's self-titled debut album gave him four Top 40 chart singles, with the schoolboyish charm of "Spiders and Snakes" reaching the highest at number three in July of 1973. His friendly voice and novelty style of songwriting actually carried some well-deserved weight, especially throughout the lesson-teaching lightheartedness of "Swamp Witch," a well-crafted story song, and again on the laughable "My Girl Bill." "Wildwood Weed" sticks with Stafford's love of playing with words, and non-hits like "I Ain't Sharin' Sharon" and "16 Little Red Noses and a Horse That Sweats" carry on with the same type of innocent jocularity that ran amuck throughout the mid-'70s, bolstered by artists like Ray Stevens and CW McCall. Max Sand is a young halfbreed living in the mountain and desert West of the 1890's. One day three gunslingers torture and kill his parents. Swearing an oath of vengeance, Max makes a funeral pyre out of the family shack and sets out to track down the killers. He is befriended by Jonas Cord, a traveling gunsmith and ammunition maker, who tries to dissuade him from his mission but, failing that, teaches him how to defend himself with a gun. Searching town after town, Max eventually finds one of his parents' murderers, Jesse Coe, and kills him in a brutal knife fight. After his own wounds have been cared for by Neesa, a Kiowa girl, Max heads for Louisiana, where a second killer is serving a prison sentence. As they reach freedom, Max reveals his true identity and guns down Bowdre; the girl also dies from a snakebite. Five years have passed since Max began his vendetta, and he has changed from a naive cowhand into a hardened criminal. Finally, Max finds the last man, Tom Fitch. In the showdown, Max shoots his opponent in both legs but is unable to kill him. Description:
Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was.
